  2. Google Docs will be used for students to do self-reflections after a performance.

  3. -Technical know how is not enough. We have to negotiate, plan and nurture conversation as well as maintain a balance between face to face and virtual lives.
-I need to be able to model how to locate and sift through the information for the students.
-Teachers and students alike must collaborate with their peers or each other. Teachers then become the "connectors".
-Administrators agree that these are valuable resources, but that is as far as they go. There is a disconnect between the theory and the use. This is reassuring to know that it isn't just our district and will help calm frustrations.
-Blooms Taxonomy has been changed to match the learning of students. I need to make sure to update my own plans to reflect this.

  4. Google Docs will be used to share information with parents... they can then ask questions. This will alleviate excessive phone calls and emails, I hope!!

  5. 1. Interactive White Boards can raise achievement with proper training, but can also be a distractor if the teacher focus is on the "bells and whistles".
    2. We are digital learners.
    3. Research on questioning was interesting.
    4. Art and Music teaching are followed by Drama and Dance; waist up activities only.

  6. The value of social networking is that you can see connections to people that aren't alway obvious in real life. It enables you to find people who could be of assistance to you more easily.

Our ability to learn what we want, when we want from whomever we want is making our present educational system irrelevant. We are in the "Collaboration Age". Students must learn to be discerning and selective when finding and editing information. Now, how to create a healthy balance of face-to-face and virtual lives?

Information flows both ways... we need to understand the new ways information is processed and learn how to integrate it into new ways of teaching. Social networking IS sharing (collaboration).

Intelligence is DIVERSE. There is more to intelligence than doing well in math/science and language arts. A university degree is not that valuable anymore. It doesn't guarantee a job. Intelligence is DYNAMIC, (Interactive). Intelligence is DISTINCT. The blend of skills is unique to each individual.

We need to encourage creativity and innovation because we really don't know where the future is taking us. (Unpredictability) Creativity is as important as literacy. "You must be prepared to be wrong" and make mistakes as we go. "We grow out of creativity" or have it educated out of us.

  7. I visited Classroom2.0 and found a blog titled "Top Ten Web 2.0 Tools" at http://www.classroom20.com/forum/topics/top-ten-web-20-tools-you-use

I found this site to be very helpful for me because I could check out each of these tools and play around with them a little. However, I wish they would have put just a brief description of each so I knew what I was going to try to be accomplishing once I got to the site. I would imagine having these descriptions would be much more helpful to a newbie user. However, I was able to try out some neat new tools: Xtranormal, Voicethread, Animoto, Edublog, and MyStudiyo. I realize many of these tools that I used were not social networking sites, but they will be useful for me or my students to post valuable content to my website for students to blog about.

  8. ~Teens are multimedia multi-taskers. I need to give them other ways to create/practice their music

~I'm educating students for jobs that haven't even been created yet.

~63% of teachers don't use any recent technology in their lessons. What can I do to be ahead of that 63%?

~Students want to collaborate and work in an inquiry-based learning environment to come up with new information, solutions to problems, or new products/inventions.

~Social bookmarking is a way for teachers to direct students to a certain set of sites that they want the students to focus on.

~Social bookmarking is a good way for students to organize their sources for doing research-based projects.

  9. 1. Information flow is in two directions. You can find it and it can find you. This process should be taught, encouraged and expected.
    2. Social networking let's you have access to more people and their knowledge.
    3. Encourage students to have self esteem because a lot of time they are good at things they think they are not.
    4. Intelligence is distinct. Educate the whole being.
    5. Encourage collaboration. Students will learn more gathering resources they may get from other students.

  10. Students will learn technology and create production due to love of what they are doing (rather than for money, grades, etc)

There are laws that choke creativity

Students who are not prepared to be wrong will never come up with anything original...I need to teach my students that it is ok to be wrong and that it is desirable to take risks in order to find out what the results will be.

We are born as a creative individual and we grow OUT of creativity...I need to use the advantage of having very young students to help them learn NOT to grow OUT of being creative.

Networking (communication with others) has always helped people meet new people, find jobs, find romance, etc. However the glitch in the past has been that there seemed to be many dead ends (connections between real people are hidden) that reached few or no results. With SN, there is a full circle of networking created and the flow is continuous and always interconnecting. SN allows us to see relationships that are hidden in the real world.

New ideas come through conversation. SN allows a greater flow of ideas and provides DEMOCRACY, EQUALITY AND FREEDOM for all. This results in more sharing of ideas (more brainstorming) We all know that brainstorming leads to new and more well developed ideas.

I really enjoyed the video entitled KILLING US SOFTLY. This was a fairly short video with an incredibly strong message about the affects of advertising in our culture and the underlying messages that are SOLD along with the product itself. Very powerful and I am considering how I can use this to create a mini unit that addresses these issues in our society.

Students are frustrated with archaic attempts at structured learning.

  11. The 5 pieces of information that will influence my planning for next year were taken from the You Tube video - "A Vision of Students Today". This video showed a large college classroom populated by at least 115 students. It demonstrated why using collaborative web sites to help REACH ALL STUDENTS in the class was so beneficial. Each student would be able to ENGAGE in the class discussion, answer questions, comment, and debate immediately! They can VISUALIZE and PERSONALIZE their work directly from their computer, then put that amended information out for the REST OF THE CLASS TO REACT.
I plan to use this to keep older students engaged - they won't have to wait their turn for others to comment. The IMMEDIATENESS of this method greatly improves the lecture process.

The article "World Without Walls" was also helpful in expanding my thinking for preparing for next year. The following statements greatly supported the use of Internet use and collaborative learning: 1. We can learn whatever we want whenever we want. 2. Groups can include all nationalities, ethnicities, personalities, etc. 3. Better learning from one and other broadens knowledge bases and teaches us to interact with unlike peers. 4. We must prepare kids for the future - education using collaborative use is essential! 5. Collaboration in several content ares can be used to keep kids engaged and learning.

  12. With my very slow dial-up at home I was only able to look at one article. It was with regard to nine reasons to Twitter. As far as I can tell there were some people that really love to twitter and some that didn't. A few of the comments were, the number one reason for a teacher to twitter is keeping parents up-to-date with what's going on in class. Twitter can be such a great networking tool not just with fellow educators, but also among students (but use with care). Finally, every professional e-mail could in theory be written in just five sentences. Twitters do it in just 140 characters.

  13. I especially appreciated the YouTube clip with some gentleman and Connan O'Brian (sp?)! He nailed it! The technology we experience is a miracle! Yet we expect more and more so quickly...things we didn't know existed just moments before! We need to appreciate and enjoy the miracle of it all! Be glad for what we are able to do and remember to develop patience as a part of practice. So, I will encourage students to appreciate what we have and focus on patience...this will be a continuing lesson for me as well!

There are so many tools available, I will need to focus on which application is most appropriate for the task at hand. When to use a wiki, when to use a blog...and when to use paper and pencil!

I was deeply interested in the social anthropology presentations on YouTube. It is absolutely critical that we as teachers are technologically literate. It's the world we live in. The communication piece is a huge part of it: how we communicate with each other effectively. The vastness of the knowledge base is exciting and vital and we need to be able to access it as freely as possible in an educational setting.

Technology brings with it many ethical and moral questions. It's a new frame for the old battle of good vs evil in many respects. This is fodder for great conversations with students and colleagues.

I love the opportunity for creativity and the acknowledgement of the importance of asking quality questions. These are higher level thinking skills. For the most part, we don't give students sufficient time in school, in large enough chunks, to be creative.

The artistic possibilities are fabulous! There is so much opportunity for photography, film, music, graphic design.....there is so much I want to learn to be able to express myself more effectively so that I can not only keep with students, but actually be able to model for them.

  14. I watched the clip on YouTube with Conan O'Brien and his guest. He made a lot of sense in a very funny way. Patience is a virtue when it comes to pretty much everything. I get easily frustrated with not knowing much about technology and yet when I am at a computer and it doesn't work right away I get easily annoyed. The info. I will use is understanding that all of this is a work in progress, that scoial networking is a tool for communication and that mnay strategies are avaliable for the taking. It will take time and trial to find ways to make it work for each educator depending on their own set of circumstances.

  15. I got onto "What?". It was interesting to re-read everyone's comments once again and less hurriedly. I found the make-up of the group to be quite interesting. A lot more art and music people than one would expect. (Was it the "social" part that attracted us? or perhaps it was word of mouth as we encouraged one another to take the class. Or maybe all the English/Social Studies/Science types are already adept at using these resources???)

  16. I plan to use Ning as a communication/social networking tool for discussion forums with AFAS Beginning Teacher Assistance Prgoram.
I'm already using Delicious to organize the sites I enjoy and value.
I can't wait to make a wiki to use for BTAP (the Beginning Teacher Program)
I'm going to explore Gdocs because there is so much there I thing would really facilitate my communication w/ students and staff.
I want to try my had at Xtranomral because I think students would really enjoy it and I have to know what I can do w/ it first.. Besides, it's just fun!
So much to learn, so little time! Daily practice and exploration is my goal!
